What is Widget?

Widget is a small application used for displaying data on Android phone’s home screen. Widget is connected to the other apps on the phone. Like, a weather app on an Android phone consist of a weather widget used to display on your screen.

What is USB?

USB is known as Universal Serial Bus that is used to connect computer with game controllers to Android cords. An Android phone consists of a micro USB slot at one end and a USB slot on the other side that makes it easy to sync to any computer.

What is Tethering?

Tethering is a process done by Android users to tether their laptop or desktop in order to share a data connection. This tool is useful in case you’re outside internet coverage area and want to use your phone’s data to use internet connection.

What is soft reset?

By soft reset, it means a normal reset on the phone and all the settings are preserved here and no user data is lost. Soft reset occurs when one removes and replaces the battery of the Android phone.

What is a SIM card?

SIM card connects your phone to the mobile network provider. For GSM phones, a SIM card is used for connecting with mobile service providers such as Telus, T-mobile, AT&T, etc.

What is an SD card?

SD card is a special memory storage unit that can be inserted easily in any Android phone. The card can be used for holding any type of data that includes pictures, music, movies, games, etc. and whatever you might want to continue on your phone.

What does Root mean?

Rooting is done to allow users to gain access to root of their android phone. That is there no restriction of using an Android phone as the phone is rooted. However, by default Android OS has restrictions making it difficult for Android users to improve the potential of their phones without rooting.

What is Recovery Mode?

Android consist of a recovery mode just like Window’s Safe mode. This recovery mode is a special mode that allows users to debug their system, perform other administrative tasks and access popular recovery mode tools such as Amon Ra and Clockwork.

What is ROM?

While rooting your Android phone, you may want to install custom ROMs on your phone, as these ROMs help you customize your phone in different way. It is basically new OS features with help of which users can perform a variety of tasks. Rooted Android users have an access to a plenty of custom ROMs that stands for (Read Only Memory).

What do you mean by open source?

“Open source” means the ability to edit the source code of a program. In other terms, the software is licensed to anyone who wants it. Android is known as open source as anyone can use, edit, and improve it the way they like.

What is Launcher?

User interface in Android is known as a Launcher that allows users to create new contacts, launch apps, perform vital tasks, make phone calls, etc. Launcher is pre-installed on all Android phones. It can also be downloaded from the Google Play store as well.

What is an IMEI number?

Not only Android but every phone has a unique IMEI number that allows it to be identified.

What is Hard Reset?

As an Android user, you might have heard about the term “Hard Reset”. It restores the Android phone to the factory state that automatically erases all the data user had on the phone. This data includes login information, passwords, apps, etc. hard reset will also erase the data on internal storage or MicroSD card but not always

What is Fastboot?

Just like Bootloader, Fastboot allow Android users to “flash” i.e. install ROMs and other components in the base levels of their Android phones.

What is Cyanogen?

CyanogenMod is one of the popular ROMs that is available to the rooted Android users these days. The name Cyanogen is online username for Steve Kondik who is well known in the Android community for his series of ROMs. If anyone says Cyanogen, it means that they might be referring to a series of ROMs or to Kondik itself.

What is Bootloader?

With Bootloader, users can install ROMs in the Android phones and can perform other tasks that are running in the background.

What is AOSP?

When talking about customized mobile solutions, developers usually refer AOSP that is “Android Open Source Project”. Like, Android OS code can be edited, viewed, and complied by anyone. This is the reason it is called as an “open source”.

What is Android?

Android is known as Google’s open source phone operating system. Phone manufacturers such as Samsung or HTC usually install customized versions of Android on their phone. However, Android can be found on other electronic devices as well that includes vehicle navigation system, microwaves, etc.

What is ADB?

ADB stands for Android Debug Bridge that is a tool to send commands from computer to an Android phone. ADB tool connects to the phone and sends commands from any desktop or laptop.
